Sea, Thermal baths and Murge
The sea in this area is complemented by
thermal baths in the area surrounding
Margherita di Savoia. Facing the sea, in fact, covering a surface of around 15.000 square meters, the thermal establishments offer mud treatments, therapeutic massages, baths, and inhalation therapies using the
red waters of the surrounding salty locations. Thermal waters include
chlorides and
sodas which provide
strong and effective remedies for numerous pathologies. Numerous establishments situated along the beaches of Margherita di Savoia offer services that make it the ideal place for seaside vacations for families with children. Another splendid city on the sea is
Bisceglie, where it is possible to stretch out and take the sun on the great bluffs set between the city and the sea.
From the naturalistic point of view,
the National Park of the Murgia is unforgettable. Included in this territory are Andria,
Corato and
Minervino Murge. Corato is the land of olives while at Minervino Murge it is possible to admire vast panoramas of all of the Apulian territory. In fact it is from this vantage point that it gets its name,
"Balcony of Apulia". For mushrooms lovers this is the area in which one finds the famous
cardoncello. Besides the mushrooms many wild vegetables grow on the Murgia and they are used to embellish about ten dishes of the local kitchen. Another naturalistic area not to be missed is the
salt plains of Margherita and the
National Reserve of the Monte. Here one finds a natural reserve that provides international guardianship of the avifauna, additionally there are many interesting examples of industrial archaeology. In addition there is a notable refuge that botanists will enjoy. This is the stopover place and nest-building habitat for the egret, red heron, swamp hawk, smaller harrier, stilt plover, tern, and black tern and martin fisherman.
