Typical Products

Lace, in all its varities are the renowned products of Gargano and especially in Vico del Gargano. Among the DOC wines one finds the San Severo, a light wine available in red, white, rosé and sparkling; The Rosso Cerignola; the Orta Nova also in red and rosé; and the unique Cacc'e mmitte of Lucera produced with an ancient process from which it takes its name. The oil is called the Dauno DOP and is offered in varieties called: Basso Tavoliere, Gargano, Alto Tavoliere, and Sub-Appennino.
Among the cheeses there are two true delicacies: the Canestrato Pugliese and the Caciocavallo Podolico. The Vacca Podolica is a delicious meat that has earned the mark "5R", on par with the other four genetic types: (Chianina, Marchigiana, Maremmana and Romagnola). Among Rodi Garganico, Vico of the Gargano and Ischitella the citrus fruit is cultivated in Gargano.
The is an small sized orange which has an intense and shining red colour, thin peel, crisp pulp and modest but exquisite juice that has a slightly bittersweet flavour. The Blond of the Gargano matures between April and May and maintains its sweet and juicy characteristics until September. The Duretta of the Gargano matures at Christmas and is practically deprived of seeds; its pulp is hard and crisp. The Femminello of Gargano is the most ancient variety of lemon in Italy. It is seedless with a delicate, thin skin and oblong shape.
Another gastronomic curiosity is the Fava Bean of Carpino. Tiny and with a dimple in its lower part, it is green during the harvest and, with time, it becomes the colour of white sand. Tender and tasty, it is traditionally cooked in the terracotta pots in the fireplace.
